I haven’t written a blog post in a while and I have a little time on my hands this afternoon, so here we are…
I was just at a conference in Santa Barbara this past weekend where a couple hundred Entrepreneurs gathered and shared ideas, mindsets, experiences, etc… I ran into a couple of guys who were asking me about my business model. They asked me to sum up my brand (Twice The Speed) in as short of a sentence as possible.
My immediate response with no hesitation was…
“The Twice The Speed creates competitors/the winning mindset”.
They were real impressed and asked me to explain my training theory and how it was different. For those of you who have been following our workouts for the past couple years, you already know how different we are.
I responded by saying, “Every exercise we do, we can measure”. Meaning…if you want to get fast and explosive you need to train fast and explosive. If this means you need to measure how fast your concentric phase (upward movement) of your squat is to see where you stand each week, then so be it!
These two were really impressed with my philosophy on training because they have never heard of anyone creating competition within their workouts. Here’s how I think of it…If you are doing our workouts (The Twice The Speed Training System) then you are most likely an athlete of some sort. You compete, right? So why not do a workout that actually trains not just your body, but your brain to become the best possible.
How many of you have seen the movie Limitless? It’s basically about a guy who takes a pill that taps into the parts of his brain that normal humans do not use. (for those of you who don’t know we only use 10% of our brain). So Bradley Cooper (star character) takes this pill and he becomes this almighty force who can do things that are just ridiculous. He is exposed to something that us “normal” people cannot fathom. The main idea of the movie is to show what it would be like if we could actually use 100% of our brain!
So what does this have to do with your training style?
When I created the Twice The Speed Training System it was geared to un-tap this mindset that all athletes desire. Creating a competitive mindset within your workouts is the most powerful way of increasing your performance overnight. As athletes we worry too much about 40 time, vertical jump tests, broad jumps, shuttles, bench max, etc…which are all great to improve! But what’s the point of working your ass off on these tests if your mind is going to be what’s holding you back when the gains aren’t coming so easy.
